Supergirl, also known as Kara, starts the movie as a nonchalant drunkard on a red-sun planet where she can feel like a "normal" human. For a 23-year-old, I wonder how she affords to drink every day without earning wages. π But her character is likeable, relatable, pretty funny too. She comes across as a typical grungy American rock chick. In contrast, her superhero mode seems too untouchable.
The scene where Ruthye's family was murdered was pretty brutal. I thought Krem would only kill her mother. It justified Ruthye's intense desire for revenge and showed the extent of Krem's wickedness. It was also ballsy of Ruthye to look for a mercenary in a random tavern, where half the customers were weird-looking squid-like creatures?!?! I would've walked right out. π
Krem looked pretty scary when he appeared with the black leather outfit, intricate makeup and red contact lenses. His makeup artist must have spent hours sticking each crystal on his face, I couldn't stop looking at them! His lines also shows how mentally sick he is? Like how he enjoys watching girls cry. π«
Comparing Ruthye's reasons to kill Krem, Kara's reason to save her dog seem underwhelming. Sorry. π€ But hey, any excuse to get her onboard the mission I guess., I could clearly tell that Krypto was animated using CGI because of its unorganic movements, but it still looked cute though.
The final planet scenes were pretty anti-climatic because Kara's just lying on the ground for like 20 minutes?? She made it up later with her kickass scenes. The yellow sun suddenly rising over Barenton and saving Kara, Ruthye showing up and saving Kara, and Lobo saving Kara too, felt too convenient. I know I know... superheroes can't die.
I almost couldn't recognise Jason Mamoa as Lobo because of the face makeup, which reminded me of KISS. I can't tell if he is good or bad, or perhaps his moral ambiguity makes him interesting.
And why did Kara give a whole speech about letting go of hatred and revenge, only to turn around and do the exact thing she preached against? I thought she wanted Krem alive solely to ask for the antidote, but it was on his necklace anyway. I was hoping Ruthye followed through with her wish.
Clark looked so awkward wearing his Superman outfit in the house! And he seems so mellow next to Supergirl, but maybe the writers wanted to highlight the stark differences between them.
Okay, that's all from me!
